I had a German shepherd named Tim. He was with us for thirteen long years. Last month he died because of old age. My son is twelve years old and he has been enjoying the company of Tim from the time he was born. Tim and my son have literally grown up together. He did not understand that Tim was just a pet and would die someday. My son was heavily dependent on Tim. Tim was not only his playmate, but also his confidante. I found him talking to Tim when he was feeling low.
On Tim’s death, I noticed a drastic change in my son. He refused to talk to anyone. He would not go out to play and generally kept to himself. The only solution that I could think of was taking him to a counselor. I was searching for the family counseling Michigan centers that would help my son. I zeroed in on newdaycounseling.org. When I took him there, I was happy to see that the atmosphere was warm and inviting. My son was in able hands and he recovered from the shock of losing his best friend Tim within next few months of counseling.
